Residential Life

pattern

A Culture of health & safety

The health, safety and well-being of our haumāna is our greatest priority. Residents can expect multi-faceted support to address their well-being needs. Our Residential Life haumāna will experience a collaborative staffing model that capitalizes on the training and skills of our staff team and is built to create a comprehensive community of support.

Maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment and residential community for all of our haumāna requires all members to be pono in their behavior and in their relationships with others. Unkindness and bullying (in any form) is not tolerated.

Medical services

The Mālama Ola Health Service Department (HSD) is responsible for all aspects of student health on campus which includes providing basic healthcare services to students. All campus health rooms are staffed by a Registered Nurse who may be supported by a Medical Assistant. The Health Services Manager oversees the care provided by the nurses.

HSD does not replace the student’s primary care provider, but does become part of each student’s healthcare team. HSD provides basic primary care services for acute conditions and can assist with disease management.

Campus Security

Kamehameha Schools is committed to providing a safe, secure, and orderly environment for students, staff and visitors. In the dormitories, all entry doors are equipped with alarms, which are activated nightly. Dormitories also have fire alarms and smoke detectors, and fire drills are conducted regularly.

Campus access is strictly controlled with KS security officers on duty 24/7. All three campus access gates and common areas on campus are equipped with video monitoring equipment, and all entry to and exit from the campus is monitored through electronic security devices.

All visitors to campus during school hours, including parents, must obtain clearance from their unit office prior to arrival. The unit office will then notify security to allow campus access. For last minute residential life dorm access please call the hale, the residential life advisor will review the request and then upon approval notify security at the main gate.

After hours and weekend access to campus is via the main gate only. Puna Gate is open during the week nights from 2:30 — 7 pm. During all other times please access campus via the main gate.
